A commercial beverage dispenser holds a drink at temperature and lets a guest or a staff member pour it without opening a bottle, which is what makes commercial beverage dispensers the backbone of buffets, function rooms and staff canteens. Commercial drink dispensers also move a lot of drinks through very little counter space.

The category splits by temperature. A commercial beverage dispenser machine for cold product is a refrigerated drink dispenser; hot water comes from commercial hot water urns; beer runs through commercial beer keg dispensers; and frozen drinks need commercial slushy machines.

These are the top FAQs for Commercial Beverage Dispensers

Which type of dispenser does my venue need?

Work from the drink, not the machine. Cold juice and soft drink need refrigeration, tea and coffee need hot water, beer needs gas and a chilled keg, and frozen drinks need a dedicated barrel.

Each of those is a separate product category, so decide the menu first and the equipment follows.

What makes a beverage dispenser restaurant grade?

Duty cycle and cleanability. A unit built for continuous service is rated for that duty and comes apart for daily cleaning without tools; a light-duty unit does neither.

Check the stated duty on each listing; our specifications reference explains the figures.

Are drink dispenser restaurant setups suited to self-serve?

Yes, and that is most of their value: guests pour their own and staff stop refilling glasses. Site the dispenser so the tap clears the bench edge and put a drip tray and bin beside it.

Disposable cups and dispensers and a kitchen rubbish bin complete the station.

Do dispensers need plumbing?

Most do not. The majority are filled by hand and run from a power point, which is why they travel to functions. Post-mix and plumbed water systems are the exception.

Where a water connection is involved, see our appliance installation page.

How cold will a refrigerated dispenser hold product?

To a range stated by the manufacturer for each model, and it depends on ambient temperature and how often it is poured. Outdoor service is much harder on them than indoor.

What cleaning routine do they need?

Daily. Strip the tap, the bowl or barrel and the seals, wash, rinse and dry. Sugar residue in a tap is where both flavour taint and hygiene problems start.

Products are in commercial kitchen cleaning supplies.

Can dispensers go to offsite events?

The hand-filled types can, and they are a catering staple for exactly that reason. Transport them empty and clean, and fill on site.

Move them on a catering trolley, and use insulated beverage storage where there is no power at all.

What ice does a cold drinks station need?

More than you think, and separately from the dispenser. A dispenser chills the product; the ice goes in the glass.

See commercial ice machines and commercial ice storage bins.

What else belongs in a drinks area?

A water point, cold storage behind the bench and glassware or cups within reach.

See water dispensers, commercial bar fridges and commercial juicers for fresh product.
