A commercial crepe maker is a flat round hotplate you ladle batter onto, spread and cook to order, so a crepe is off the plate in as little as a minute. That is what makes it work at a creperie, on a cafe dessert menu, at a market stall or on a catering job: take the order, pour, spread, fill, hand it over.
Fill them with something sweet like the ever-popular Nutella option, sweet and sour like lemon and sugar, or something savoury like smoked salmon. The same plate cooks pancakes, tortillas and omelettes, which is why it is also sold as a commercial pancake maker.
Our commercial crepe makers include single hotplate models for a cafe adding crepes to the menu up to double hotplate models for a creperie serving a queue, so you can buy the size that suits your business at its current size, then size up as your business grows. A crepe cooks in as little as a minute on a commercial plate, so a queue keeps moving. The plate heats evenly across the whole surface and the temperature control is set once, which is what lets you cook one crepe after another at the same setting.
You can cook crepes in a non-stick frying pan. The crepe maker plate is wider, flatter and evenly heated, so there are no hot or cold spots to work around and the crepe cooks to one thickness, and the temperature control makes that repeatable.
It is quicker to clean as well. The non-stick plate wipes down, so it never needs to go near a dishwasher.
Start with the plate. Most commercial crepe makers have a non-stick hotplate, which is easier to cook on and faster to wipe down than stainless steel. Then get a model with temperature control, whether you are only making crepes or using the plate for pancakes and omelettes too, because that is how you set how thin the crepe cooks.
Weight matters if you run a market stall or only use the plate in season. They are fairly light, on average around 20 kilograms, so one person can move one.
Crepe makers come with temperature controls, typically ranging between 50℃ to 300℃, so you set the plate and leave it there. The manufacturer guidelines for your model normally give you a starting point.
The non-stick surface is the other half of it. Batter spreads across it easily, and the crepe lifts to flip and fold without tearing.
Wipe the plate down with a damp cloth when you close up, which takes off any residue. Some models have removable parts that can go in the dishwasher, so check yours.
The area around the hotplate cleans the same way, with some cleaner on a cloth to lift baked-on batter.
We stock the commercial brands that build to a commercial standard and state the warranty on each product page. For a crepe maker, the two worth looking at are Apuro and Benchstar.
A crepe spreader, which is the tool that pushes the batter out into a round, even layer, and some crepe makers come with one. Plus a spatula that is safe on non-stick, for flipping and folding.
If you make crepes ahead of orders coming in, a hot food display holds them for the counter.
You will see commercial pancake maker, crepe machine commercial, commercial crepe maker machine, professional crepe maker, crepe commercial equipment and commercial pancake maker machine used for the same kind of equipment. The name changes with the supplier and the region, not the job it does. Compare models on capacity, construction and the specification on each product page, and check the full commercial crepe makers range to see every option side by side.
