A commercial one door freezer keeps a small kitchen's frozen stock behind one full-height door, at eye level and off the floor, so staff can see what is there and get to it in the middle of service. It is the starting size for frozen storage, with adjustable shelves inside.

A 1 door commercial freezer suits cafes, bars and small restaurants. Larger kitchens step up to 2 door commercial freezers or 3 door commercial freezers.

These are the top FAQs for 1 Door Commercial Freezers

Is one door enough?

For a small kitchen, usually. If staff queue at the door during prep, or you buy frozen in bulk, two doors will pay for themselves.

Upright or chest?

An upright keeps stock at eye level and off the floor, so nobody is rummaging to find anything. A commercial chest freezer holds more in the same footprint and takes large or oddly shaped stock that will not sit on a shelf, but you reach down into it rather than along a shelf. Most kitchens use an upright on the line and a chest for bulk.

Manual or automatic defrost?

A one door freezer on a busy line gets opened all day, and automatic defrost keeps it clear without anyone having to empty it and switch it off. Manual defrost costs less and is fine on a cabinet that is opened rarely.

If ice keeps building up on an automatic unit, that is a seal or airflow problem rather than a defrost problem.

How do I know when a door seal needs replacing?

Shut a sheet of paper in the door. If it pulls out without any grip, the seal has gone. Ice around the door and condensation on the frame are the other signs.

A failing seal makes the compressor run constantly, and a new seal is the cheapest repair on a freezer.

What clearance does it need?

Follow the manufacturer's minimum at the back and top. A freezer pushed against a wall runs hot and fails early.

Chilled equivalents are in commercial fridges.
