A 140 litre mixer puts a day's dough through in as few batches as possible, which is why a wholesale bakery or a food production site buys one. It is the largest bowl we stock, and at this size the bowl is moved and emptied mechanically rather than lifted. A 140 quart mixer, or 140 qt mixer in American catalogues, is the same size bracket under the American name, and some suppliers write it 140 quarts mixer.

Machines at this scale are chosen around the line they feed. If you are not certain you need this capacity, compare it with 80 litre and the rest of the commercial mixers range first, because everything downstream has to keep pace, from dough dividers through to baking ovens.

Nobody pays for a machine this size out of the week's takings. Silverchef Rent-Try-Buy can fund it, with the option to upgrade or hand equipment back as things change.

These are the top FAQs for 140 Litre Mixers

Is this capacity actually right for my operation?

It is right when mixing is a scheduled, repeating task with a known daily weight, and when the rest of the line can absorb a batch this size without a bottleneck forming behind it.

If your dividing, proving or baking capacity cannot keep pace, a bigger mixer just creates a queue. Work out the slowest step in the line first, and look at dough processing equipment alongside the mixer rather than after it.

What does a site need to take delivery of one?

A load-bearing floor, a delivery path wide and flat enough for the machine on a pallet, and mechanical handling at the far end. These machines do not go through a standard doorway or up a step.

Measure the full route, including corners, lifts and thresholds, before ordering. Our delivery information page sets out what is included and the contact page is the place to raise access constraints early.

What power and services does it need?

Three-phase power in effectively all cases, to a specification given on the product page. Allow for an isolator within reach of the operator and for the heat the machine puts into the room.

Have the supply confirmed by an electrician before the machine is shipped. We can arrange the connection and commissioning through our installation partner.

How is the bowl emptied at this size?

Mechanically. Depending on the model that means a bowl lift and tipping arrangement or a removable bowl moved on its own trolley. Nobody handles a loaded bowl at this capacity.

The arrangement dictates the layout, so decide where the dough goes next before the machine is positioned. Racking trolleys and tubs have to suit the bowl, not the other way round.

How much does a 140 qt mixer need to be maintained?

On a schedule, not on failure. At this duty the wearing parts have a service life, and replacing them to a plan costs far less than an unplanned stop mid-production.

Keep the manufacturer's schedule, log the hours and hold the common parts on site. Order through the spare parts request page and use the service request form for technician work.

Can I see one before buying?

Talk to us about what you are producing and we will go through the options, the site requirements and the lead time. The contact page is the quickest way to start that conversation on a specific model.

It is also worth looking at the whole bakery equipment range at the same time, because a mixer of this size usually arrives as part of a line rather than on its own.
