Bar fridges provide convenient storage for bottled beverages as well as cocktail ingredients that need to be kept refrigerated (such as lemon or lime wedges). They are also commonly placed directly underneath commercial coffee machines to store milk. Our bar fridges are available in both solid and glass door designs, white, black and stainless steel finishes and some models are available with sliding doors for those spaces where regular hinged doors are not ideal.

What to consider while buying a commercial bar fridge?
Before you buy a commercial bar fridge, you need to consider the needs of your restaurant. This appliance is a must-have for restaurant businesses that store perishable items. When choosing a commercial bar fridge, there are several factors to consider, including size, capacity, energy efficiency, door alarms, ventilation, and doors. The type of food you will store also plays a role in determining the best commercial bar fridge for your business.
For example, if you regularly store large quantities of bottled drinks, you will need a commercial display fridge with a larger capacity, preferably a 4-door or 3-door refrigerator. If you are only storing some drinks or even small quantities of food, a smaller bar fridge may be sufficient. For those who need to store milk under a coffee machine, you can choose a milk fridge that has enough capacity for multiple bottles. Bar fridges are generally available in 850mm-950mm height with adjustable feet. Widths are also fairly standard with single door fridges generally being 600mm wide, two door fridges 900mm wide and 3-door fridges 1350mm wide. These standard sizes make it easy for you to find a fridge with the right dimensions to fit where you need it. Always remember to check product manuals for exact measurements and ventilation requirements before purchasing!
Here are three main factors to consider when deciding on a commercial bar fridge:
Size, Placement and Ventilation
The first obvious consideration is the size of the fridge. You require refrigeration that is the right size for your purpose. If you order a unit that is too big, you'll waste space and pay to operate a refrigerator that you don't need. The placement of your fridge in your kitchen is the other size-related concern. Measure the fridge before placing it in your kitchen to ensure it is out of the way of your staff and customers.
Another essential concern related to placement is ventilation. Before installing a fridge, you need to consider where the ventilation is located on your refrigerator. It shouldn't be too close to the wall, a 15cm gap is ideal - but check the specific fridge’s manual to confirm the manufacturer’s recommendations.
Capacity
Just like size, capacity refers to how much food and drink your refrigerator can contain. Litres are used to describe commercial refrigerator capacity, however just because a fridge has a capacity of 220L, don’t expect to fit a full 220L of milk inside! When choosing between models, consider the capacity of the fridge, along with the capacity of the shelves. For storing drinks, you would not need a lot of shelves, but with food, you need a fridge that has shelves to clearly organise everything. Commercial bar fridges come in all sizes and capacities. Browse through our range to find out more about the sizes of bar fridges and filter results to find an appliance with a specific capacity range.
Doors
Just like placement and ventilation, the doors are an important factor in buying a fridge. The bigger the fridge, the more doors it’ll have. You need to consider the location of your fridge door. Would your staff need a right- or left-hand opening? And according to the design of your kitchen, would you need a fridge that has sliding, hinged or lifting doors? Consider the space each one will require before purchasing. You also need to consider the regularity with which doors will be opened. If it will be more than six times in a day, we recommend getting a heavy-duty model, which is designed to manage frequent door openings.
How long does a commercial bar fridge take to cool?
When it comes to commercial bar fridges, there is no one-size-fits-all answer to the question of how long it takes for them to get cold. The amount of time it takes will depend on a number of factors, including the size of the fridge, the ambient temperature and the type of beverages being stored. Generally speaking, however, most commercial bar fridges will reach the desired temperature within an hour or two. All the drinks will be chilled to the set temperature within 24 hours, and then it's much easier to maintain that coldness.
How much does a commercial bar fridge cost to run?
Commercial bar fridges come in a range of price points. They are available in a variety of sizes and capacities and tend to be more expensive to run than domestic fridges because they are opened and closed more often, which takes more energy to keep cool. However, they are built to withstand the demands of a commercial environment. Running costs will vary depending on the size and type of commercial fridge. In saying that, bar fridges are not as heavy-duty as back of house fridges and will be relatively cheaper to run, as well as running much quieter.
What can help to reduce your running costs is regular maintenance and cleaning. With proper maintenance, your fridge will last longer and run efficiently. Also, avoid placing the fridge in direct sunlight, which will cause it to run hotter and therefore require more energy to keep cool.
How to defrost a commercial bar fridge?
Firstly, check the different model fridges’ descriptions as most commercial glass-fronted bar fridges have automatic defrosting.
For the few fridges that may require manual defrosting, there are some steps you can take to make the process easier. First, turn off the fridge and unplug it from the power outlet. Then, remove all of the food, drinks and shelves from the fridge. Let the fridge air out for a few hours. Next, (if necessary) use a hairdryer to melt the ice inside the fridge. Once the ice is melted, wipe down the fridge's interior with a towel or a sponge. Finally, plug the fridge back in and turn it on. Make sure you defrost your fridge regularly to ensure that it’s functioning smoothly.
Keep in mind also that the hotter it is outside and the more time the fridges’ doors are opened, the more the cooling system has to run to keep the temperature down and therefore more ice can build up on the cooling system itself. This should be melted via the automatic defrost functions but like the fridge cabinet internals, this can ice up too and an eye should be kept on it, if automatic defrosting is not a feature.
Is the glass on bar fridges frost free?
As summer approaches and we are gifted with warm, humid weather, our glass door fridges will start to fog up. This is due to condensation, which is basically the tiny water molecules in the air (humidity) coming into contact with the cold glass door. The water molecules condense into tiny droplets, which we see as condensation. This is a natural phenomenon and is not a result of any issue with the fridge. The fridge is not leaking, but this condensation will eventually drip down and form a puddle.
The only way to prevent condensation is to prevent a temperature difference between the inside and the outside of the fridge. One way to accomplish this is with heated glass. Some fridges have this option, which has very fine wire filaments running through the glass, which warm the glass and prevent condensation. This is especially relevant in the warmer, more humid regions of Australia such as Queensland, Northern Territory etc.
Unfortunately, this option is not available for most models of cheaper bar fridges but can be custom ordered for some brands such as Skope, Williams and Thermaster. If you require this for your bar fridge, please get in touch with us before ordering and we will reach out to our suppliers!
Are commercial bar fridges energy-efficient?
Most commercial bar fridges in today's market are designed with energy efficiency in mind. They often incorporate features like LED lighting, improved insulation, and efficient compressors to reduce power consumption. Look for units with an Energy Star rating or other energy-saving certifications when making a purchase to ensure better energy efficiency and cost savings over time.
Can a commercial bar fridge be customized to fit my space?
Some commercial bar fridges offer versatile installation options. While customization may have limitations, certain models allow for built-in or freestanding installation depending on your requirements. It is important to consult the product specifications or contact our customer support for detailed information on customization possibilities.
How do I choose the right size of commercial bar fridge for my establishment?
When selecting the size of a commercial bar fridge, consider the available space, the quantity and variety of beverages you plan to store, and the volume of customer traffic. Measure the allocated area and compare it with the dimensions of the fridges you are considering. Additionally, review the internal capacity specifications provided by the manufacturer to ensure it can accommodate your desired quantity of beverages efficiently.
How do I clean and maintain a commercial bar fridge?
Regular cleaning and maintenance are crucial to keeping your commercial bar fridge in top condition. Start by unplugging the unit and removing all items. Wipe down the interior and exterior surfaces with a mild detergent and water solution. Pay attention to door gaskets, shelves, and condenser coils. Lastly, check the owner's manual for specific maintenance instructions, such as condenser cleaning and temperature calibration, to ensure optimal performance.
How does a commercial bar fridge differ from a residential refrigerator?
Commercial bar fridges are built to withstand the heavy use and demands of a commercial kitchen. Unlike residential fridges, they can handle constant opening and closing, ensuring consistent temperature regulation even in high traffic areas.
