Waiter aprons carry the pad, the pen and the opener, take the spills that would otherwise land on a shirt, and are the part of the uniform a customer is closest to all night. That makes a waiter apron the hardest-working garment on a floor and the one replaced most often.
The choices are style, length and ties. A waitress server apron in waist or bistro form is quick to put on and leaves the shirt visible; a bib apron protects more and suits kitchen-adjacent work. Aprons for restaurant servers need pockets in the right place and ties long enough to knot comfortably.
Aprons sit in the waiter clothing range with waiter shirts, waiters pants and chef jackets, and carry the commercial check pads and waiters friend openers that live in the pockets.
Choosing between bib and bistro, and in what length? The price guide lists the aprons by style. For an embroidered run, get a quote and we will price the branding in with the shirts.
Bib for anything near plating or a bar where splash goes high. Waist or bistro for table service, because they are faster to put on and take off and they leave the shirt and tie visible.
Bistro aprons sit longer on the leg and protect the pants, which is why they persist in wine service. Most floors run bistro and most bars run bib.
Two at the front, at hand height, deep enough that a pad does not fall out when someone bends to clear a low table. Pockets too low mean reaching down every time an order is taken.
Check the pocket depth against your check pads. A separate narrow pocket for a pen stops the pen going through the fabric.
To mid-calf for bistro style, to the knee for a short apron. Longer protects the pants better and is more likely to be stepped on going up stairs, which is a real consideration in a two-level venue.
Try it on your actual staircase before ordering fifty. Lengths are on the product page specifications.
More than anything else about an apron. Short ties cannot be knotted comfortably on a larger waist, and an apron that cannot be tied properly is an apron that comes loose mid-service.
Buy long ties and let people wrap them. A neck strap on a bib apron should be adjustable, not fixed.
A tight-weave blend that takes a hot wash and does not hold oil. Pure cotton is comfortable and stains readily; a coated or waterproof apron sheds liquid and does not breathe at all.
Waterproof aprons belong in dish pits and wet prep, not on a floor. See the rubber gloves range for the rest of what a dish pit needs.
Hot, often, and separately from shirts, because aprons carry the oil. Washing them with whites is how a whole load ends up grey.
Treat oil stains before they go through a dry cycle. Expect to replace waitress aprons faster than any other garment in the uniform, so order spares with the first run.
It helps, and colour is the easiest way to do it. Different colours front and back make it obvious who a customer should approach and stop kitchen aprons walking out onto the floor.
Keep both within one palette so the venue looks coherent. See the wider waiter clothing range.
On aprons, yes — they are the most visible garment and embroidery survives hot laundering far better than print. It also makes them less likely to disappear.
Keep the logo small and on the chest or hip. Order the branding with the original run so later replacements match.
