A small commercial freezer holds the frozen stock a kitchen gets through in a week, in a cabinet that takes up a single bay. That suits cafes, bars, food trucks and staff kitchens that need frozen storage on site without giving up a run of floor space.

Small usually means a single door upright or an under bench unit. See 1 door commercial freezers and commercial under counter freezers, or compare with large commercial freezers.

These are the top FAQs for Small Commercial Freezers

Can I use a domestic freezer instead?

Not for a food business. Domestic units are not built to hold temperature in a hot kitchen with the door opening constantly, and they fail quickly under that use.

See the commercial range in commercial freezers.

Upright or chest for a small site?

An upright keeps stock at eye level on shelves and drawers, so nobody is rummaging. A chest holds more in the same footprint and takes large or odd-shaped stock that will not sit on a shelf, but you reach down into it.

See commercial chest freezers.

Manual or automatic defrost?

Automatic defrost saves labour and keeps performance steady, which matters in a busy kitchen. Manual defrost units cost less and suit freezers that are opened rarely.

Either way, ice build-up means a seal or airflow problem rather than a defrost problem.

How do I know when a door seal needs replacing?

Look for ice building around the door, condensation on the frame, or a seal that no longer grips paper closed in the door. A failing seal makes the compressor run constantly and frosts the cabinet.

Seals are replaceable on most cabinets, and it is the cheapest repair there is.

Where should a small freezer go?

Away from cooking equipment and direct sun, with ventilation clearance. A freezer beside a fryer works far harder than it should.

How much frozen storage does a cafe actually need?

Less than most people buy. Count what you hold frozen at the end of a week, not what you could fit. Over-buying costs floor space and power for stock that never turns over.

Bulk overflow is cheaper in a chest freezer out the back. Not sure where the line sits for your site? Ask us before you buy the second cabinet.
