All fridges and freezers, whether commercial or domestic work in the same way.
When first turned on, the cooling systems start running and removing heat from the cabinet, bringing the internal temperature down to the set point (usually 2°C)
Once the internal cabinet temperature reaches the set point, the compressor and other components stop running. The temperature in the cabinet will slowly rise and when it reaches approximately 6°C (or whatever the set differential temperature variance is) the cooling system turns on again and brings the internal cabinet temperature back down to the set point.
The cooling system is designed to cycle between the lowest temperature you set in the controller and a few degrees higher, based on the differential set by the manufacturer. By doing so and not running the cooling system 24/7, it saves you power and money while maintaining the temperature of the items stored in it.
Please keep in mind the following:
- The temperature on the digital display is the live reading of the air temperature inside the cabinet, not the temperature of the actual food or drinks
- Food and drinks are denser than air so their internal temperature will not fluctuate unless the cabinet door is left open for extended periods of time
- Domestic fridges usually do not show live temperature readings, only set points or average temperatures. This is on purpose so that domestic/residential customers do not get worried every time the temperature moves by 0.1°C!
- You are already familiar with fridge cooling cycles! You have heard your fridge start buzzing then turn off after some time - this is the compressor turning on and off!
- The differential temperature variance set points are determined by the manufacturer and adjusting this setting will void your warranty.
- Always read the fridge or freezer's manual and understand the ventilation and cleaning requirements.
- Most commercial fridges and freezers require some space between the cooling system and the wall, this is usually 10cm, 15cm or 20cm depending on the specific model. These details are in the products' manual.
- Ensure that the condenser filter is cleaned regularly. We advise to check it at least monthly. The product's manual will show how to do this and how often.
- Ensure that the room where the fridge/freezer is stored is not higher in temperature or humidity than the ambient ratings of the appliances.
- If you change the factory settings of the controller (other than the temperature set point) without the manufacturer's written permission, this will void its warranty
- Failure to keep the condenser filter clean or provide adequate space for ventilation will result in the appliance over-working and can lead to premature faults which will not be covered under warranty.
The bottom line:
1. Understand how a fridge works. The temperature fluctuation by a few degrees is totally normal.
2. Make sure you have allowed adequate space for ventilation so the cooling system works as it should.
3. Make sure the ambient temperature in the room does not exceed the appliance's rating (usually 25°, 32°, 38° or 43°)
4. Clean the condenser filter monthly so airflow is not restricted
