Refurbished equipment at REO comes off showroom floors, out of demonstration kitchens and off supplier clearance lines. A machine may have scratches and dents, picked up in transit, in the kitchen it worked in, or in handling.
Every product is inspected, tested and verified in working condition before it is relisted for sale. Warranty terms are shown on each product page and depend on that unit's condition, history and age. The price is cheaper than brand new, and nearly every machine is a one-off, so the unit in the photographs is the one you'll get.
Each type of machine has its own page. Refurbished cooking equipment covers ovens, cooktops, chargrills, griddles and fryers from Unox, Convotherm, Fagor, Luus and GasMAX. Refurbished fridges covers under bench, upright and prep cabinets from FED-X, Thermaster, Skope and Anvil. Refurbished freezers has upright, chest and under bench freezers, blast chillers, and ice cream and soft serve machines from Brullen, Taylor and Carpigiani.
Refurbished display equipment has the cake, deli and hot food cabinets your customers see from the front. Refurbished kitchen appliances has benchtop and floor fryers, salamanders, contact grills, food processors, blenders, juicers, pasta and noodle cookers, rotisseries, kebab machines and heat lamps. Espresso machines are in refurbished beverage equipment. There are smaller sections for Scotsman ice machines, Eswood dishwashers, Tyrone and Yasaki bakery mixers, Modular Systems stainless benching and kitchen furniture.
You'll get a machine that works and shows its age. There may be scratches and dents, from transit, from the kitchen it came out of, or from being moved around a warehouse. Light scuffing on stainless is normal and it isn't a fault, and it's a large part of why the price is cheaper than brand new.
Every product is inspected, tested and verified in working condition before it is relisted for sale. There are wear and tear components that need to be fixed, sharpened or replaced periodically, and those are dealt with before the machine is cleaned and run up. The condition of a particular unit is described on its own product page next to the photographs, along with the warranty terms for it.
Yes. Warranty terms are shown on each product page, because they depend on the machine's condition, history and age. A low-hour oven out of a demonstration kitchen won't carry the same warranty as a ten-year-old range.
Ask us as well whether a repair is done on site or whether the machine has to go back to a service agent, because freight on a heavy cabinet changes the sums. Ask whether parts for that model are still supported in Australia, which over five years matters more than the length of any warranty.
There's no fixed percentage, because it depends on the model, its age, how much work it needed and how sought after it still is. A high-end combi oven can save you a lot against list price, while a simple benchtop unit saves less because it was never expensive new. REO prices on refurbished machines are sharp, and it's worth putting a refurbished unit next to the new equivalent before you decide.
You can rent instead. With Silverchef Rent-Try-Buy you rent the equipment instead of buying it outright, so your cash stays in the rest of the fit-out and the rental payments are an operating expense. When the business is ready you can buy the unit out, or upgrade to a bigger model.
Three different histories. Refurbished units have worked in a kitchen and been stripped down, repaired, tested and verified in working condition before they are relisted for sale. Ex-display and showroom units were built and put on show but never ran a service, so their wear is usually cosmetic. Clearance stock is surplus or run-out product being cleared out, and it hasn't done any work at all.
All three are sold at REO and all three can have scratches and dents. The product title normally says which one you're looking at, and if two similar machines are priced oddly far apart, history is nearly always the reason.
The letters on the end tell you which warehouse that unit is sitting in. A code that finishes with a state and a number is one specific machine on one specific floor, which is why two machines of the same model can be in different condition and at different prices.
Freight is worked out from the state the unit is in, so a cabinet held interstate costs more to get to you. If you need a matching pair, check they're both in the same warehouse before you order, because splitting a delivery across states adds cost and the two won't arrive together.
The power details are on each product page, and they decide whether this is a delivery or a job. A single phase machine drawing 10 amps goes into a normal power point. A 15 amp single phase unit has a bigger earth pin and needs a matching outlet fitted. Three phase equipment needs its own circuit and a licensed electrician.
Gas is the same. A refurbished range, wok burner or fryer has to be connected and commissioned by a licensed gasfitter, and it has to be jetted for the gas you run, because natural gas and LPG aren't interchangeable without the right injectors. Book the gasfitter in before the delivery date, because the machine isn't ready to cook the day it lands.
Refurbished freezers are typically dented in transit, and a scratch or a dent in a panel doesn't impact the cooling system. What lets a cabinet hold temperature is the door seals, the condenser and the airflow around it. Flat or perished seals let warm air in and the compressor never gets a rest, and seals are cheap, so budget for a set anyway. The condenser needs clear air, so a unit going into a run of benching is a different buy to one with space behind it.
Run the cabinet empty when it lands. Let it pull down, then hold it for a full day before you put any stock in it, and write the readings down. One that pulls down slowly but then holds steady is usually fine. One that can't hold overnight needs a technician before it carries food.
For most machines, yes. FED-X, Thermaster, Skope, Anvil, Scotsman, Eswood, Luus, GasMAX, Unox and Convotherm are all current trade brands with service agents in Australia, so gaskets, elements, thermostats and control boards are normally easy to get.
Older and discontinued models are harder. The wear and tear components are usually still available, but a proprietary control board might not be. If the machine is going into a job your service depends on, call us and ask about parts for that exact model before you order.
Nearly every refurbished machine is a single unit, so a second matching cabinet only exists if a second one came through, and it may look slightly different or be sitting in another state. The quantity available is shown on each product page.
If you're fitting out a whole section and you need everything to match, call us first and we'll tell you what's in the warehouse and what's coming in. Buying the matched run new and putting the saving into one large refurbished machine can work out better.
